Normandy 44 by James Holland
William Boyd's uncle Ronald fought at D-Day, an 18-year-old able seaman on HMS Ajax. He was reluctant to tell any stories and always changed the subject when it came up. When he died, he left me a dictaphone recording of his recollections of the war,. And I really treasure that. William Boyd has reviewed Normandy 44 by James Holland. This is apparently a superb book, and William joins us now to reflect on it and 75 years since D-Day.
