Second Samuel is considered by scholars to be a compilation of older material that has been brought together into one narrative. This book is pretty violent and on a personal level, we read of 12 rapes, one suicide, seven murders and 10 executions. David does not die at the end of second Samuel would be sort of neat if he did literally neat, but he doesn't.
