The University of Alberta's Daniel Beretta used fish to study the impact of fever. Goldfish like other cold-blooded vertebrates do not have the capacity for changing body temperature through metabolic means. Fish will go to a warm side of the pond and be able to induce or stimulate that fever through behavior rather than through metabolic means, he says.
