What Are Categorical Variables?

Categorical variables are variables that fall into a pre specified number of groups. For example, survey responses to a question about your country of origin would be a categorical variable. Categorical variables aren't ordered; they're called ordinal variables. If you're plotting an ordinal variable, you want your graff in the correct order.
