The Problem With the Model of Academic Progress

I think my vocation as a professor in some ways runs contrary to the entire structure of academia today. The dominant model of the way in which we understand academia unfolding seemed to me to be fundamentally at odds with what the purpose of my discipline was. And so I've always felt myself as a bit of a kind of outsider to the ethos of the modern university. But I think that's also given me a little bit of a critical edge on what the university is and allowed me to see it a little know, you know, like a visiting foreigner.
