Are we more or less tolerant of speech that we disagree with as a country? That's hard to say. My greatest concern these days is when I see the issue distorted, exaggerated, and exploited for political gain. We're seeing books uprooted from libraries. In 2023, we're seeing curricula stripped of this author and that author because it doesn't accord with our sense of what's right and decent. When the state orders that, that hurts us all.
