The Purity of the Heart Is Crucial for Christ
The point of this passage is not primarily an argument against food laws, but rather against the pharisaic use of the tradition. Even the levitical law hilited that what came out was the real problem. Things were impure because they emerged from flesh, not because they came in and defiled persons who were already pure. And the purity of the heart is absolutely integral for christ. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see god.
