Serial numbers from the money used to pay that ransom had been recorded, even though Charles was said to have be like reluctant with doing that. The first bill surfaced in New York only three days after the ransom was paid over the next two years,. More and more would appear until police arrested Bruno Richard Hoptman on September 19, 1934. Despite his pleas of innocence, Hopton was indicted in October of 1934 for the murder of baby Charlie.
