Many voices, even within our evangelical christian culture, are suggesting that maybe we've been reading the bible wrong. The book of judges shows us very clearly what happens when israel doesn't do what god has told them. But it's just not as straight wice as the first voge. No judges. They end up becoming assimilated to the people - and so purely from a pragmatic understanding for god they can see part of the reason for war here. And i think people miss out on the fact that holy war is not a routine practice every time israel goes to war. It's a unique practice for the land in which this takes place.
