A free press is vital if we're to have any chance at a functioning democracy. Federal action for media is only right and a tiny step toward repairing damage that federal action let loose. Bill passed in the house provides one point six seven billion over the next five years for newspapers, web sites, radio and t v stations. More news, more democracy has republican whips. The time is ripe as well as the predominantly white and corporate media has shrunk. A new generation of innovative local media ventures are rising to fill the gap.
