i think all of us are culpable of the whole main character syndrome as it were. i have also been harsh with my parents at different times and of course there's nothing to do about that regret. thinking aloud might explain why so many men like you said might want to walk away because they want to maintain their main characterness rather than subsume it to a rule. I just like to say one thing about your process if i may one of the most important things that you're doing in de-centering yourself from the main characters to listen.
