As a Navy chaplain serving in combat logistics, Trevor Carpenter has traveled on guided-missile destroyers and served with teams scouting for air assault attacks. He received the Navy and Marine Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. Lieutenant Carpenter has also worked in the outdoor education field and served on multiple church staffs in New Mexico and Texas.
