Is There a Temple Prostitution?
A lot of ancient sources mention it as a thing that happened. There's very little physical, archaeological evidence and most of it is circumstantial. Some modern historians chalk up all the mention of sacred prostitution in the ancient sources to sweaty mistranslations on the part of these gentlemen scholars. Other authors make the argument that ancient writers, pre christian writers, who talk about sacred prostitution did it for other different cultures from different regions or time periods. And possibly the argument goes before them.
