The Effects of Social Media on Depression
In 2012 amongst younger Americans, we see a massive spike in depression. We know for a fact that places like Instagram, this isn't necessarily extremism, but it does have to do with how these things work. You don't have to look any further than Pittsburgh, PAW-A, Buffalo. All three of those mass shooters were all exposed to hateful anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on social media prior to carrying out those attacks. And so that is to me a really good explanation of what I'm talking about, how individuals are getting radicalized.
