Shania Nastanaya's Memoirs
Shania suffered sexual violence at the hands of her stepfather as well. Nastanaya also wrote that her mum Sharon repeatedly tried to leave her abusive marriage over the years. Shania said she took matters into her own hands and was determined to get her mother out of the situation. The most potent memory that Shania revisited was in 1979 when she was 15 years old and hell-bent on getting her mum out of the house and into safety. She crammed a carie, mark and darryl into the car and told them to wait. 10 hours later, they reached Toronto and took refuge in a homeless shelter.
