The Pleistocene Ice Age

The phrase Pleistocene was created by the scientist Charles Lael in 1839 based on two Greek words. Ice ages that occurred between one and three million years ago happened in 41,000 year intervals. During the Pleistocene era, there was an abrupt shift for the amount of time between ice ages lengthened to 100,000 years.
