The tension of the collection of data and then a dream that somehow it would fit into whatever conceptual frame we're living on is a long standing tension. But one of our contentions is very much to understand the earlier moments of that contention is extremely clarifying for the current moment. The idea of a quantifiable general intelligence did not exist or the idea that you might go through and quantify poverty, that that did not exist, that there was a time before that.
