When you're young, being good with words is something that can help you fit in. It can help you to defend yourself and shut someone down. For me, the most influential author was Roald Dahl who had illustrations by Quentin Blake in his books. He made it feel like not only storytelling, but also illustration was something within our grasp. The drawings of Quentin Blake made it seem like it's accessible to me. I could draw like that. I could say that and it would make sense to someone. So very little in my life is intentional. Unfortunately, I've just been buffeted by circumstance"
