I was raised by a bunch of women and Queen Latifah reminded me of the women that I was raised by in terms of like she's a woman, but there's a moxie there. And then when you got down to the raps themselves, the language and the lyrics themselves, I just fell in love with what she was doing. It wasn't easy coming from that family because as you said, they didn't suffer fools. These were the kinds of women who weren't the most sensitive women because they couldn't be. The environment wouldn't allow for that.
