I think steinbeck would be horrified at the age we live at now. I did a painting about september eleventh. And one of the colage elements that i put on to this was a piece of this flag that had torn off. The copy the top of the flag is frayedit's very heavy wind up there. This is another passage from the book, travels with charley. It was like starting to write a novel. When i faced the desolate impossibility of writing 500 pages, a sick sense of failure falls on me, and i know i can never do it.
