The Effects of Lightning on the Brain
An upward leader is electrical charge emanating from the ground upward. It's third most common form of lightning fatalities after ground currents and side flashes. Direct strikes are not very common, they're one of the least common ways to be injured or killed by lightning. A direct strike is more likely to hit somebody when they're on a tall peak than if they're down in a forest or at the base of a cliff.
