status is really morphing into being about the embrace of radical progressivism. The elite graduate class have embraced radical progressivism partly because they think you know they're nice people and they want to make a lot of better place but fundamentally it's also a status game. They're using this really to try and not only cement their status among the elite but also disassociate themselves from the morally inferior groups who are maybe supporting Brexit or Donald Trump.
