David Rothkopf: There's a general sense of pessimism in the United States with counter-insurgency coming out of especially Afghanistan, but even Iraq before that. He says it's important not to let Iraq and Afghanistan monopolize our understanding of counter- Insurgency. The doctrine is good enough; by its very nature, doctrine is always reductive, he says. But there needs to be a more hard-nosed conversation about what U.S. policy actually is on these various countries," Rothkopff adds.
