I showed up at the hospital and I was just kind of in tears. The attitude towards death and mortality is quite different in Bhutan. No one else in the family would cry or express grief because that was seen as sort of a sign of weakness. So death was sometimes seen as like a release or a celebration rather than something to be sad about. Most people saw their role as just doing their job and no one saw it as their ultimate responsibility to ensure patient safety and patient care.
