Paul picks up on this imagery when he comes in Ephesians 5 and he's talking about the relationship between a husband and a wife and he compares it to the relationship between Christ and the church. He says that Christ has washed his bride and cleansed her so that she might be presented as holy and righteous and beautiful in his own eyes.
