"The characters in this movie are very paper thin, but I think that's kind of the point. You need these archetypes turned up to a million," he says. "If it wanted to ride this sort of like weird middle line between seeming like a dumb action flick to the unwashed masses and being recognized by the elite film people as having more depth ... It would be so much better of a movie if it actually had some well written characters with the actual motivations that we care about."
