The Role of Exercise in Aging

Scientists say a substantial portion of the muscle loss, mass and strength with aging is due to reduced physical activity. Adults who maintain high levels of physical activity into their 60s and above have less body fat and more muscle are more fit and stronger. The scientists also say increased protein intake is needed for older adults to achieve a response to exercise training similar to that of their younger counterparts owing to the anabolic resistance.
