The Immorality of Condoms in Ireland

The pill had actually been prescribed in Ireland since the 1960s, but only as a so-called cycle regulator. Condoms remained illegal up until 1980 when it was ruled that they could be prescribed by a doctor who was satisfied that a married couple were using them for family planning purposes. So Ireland became the only country in the world to make condoms a medicine. It's pretty much the way Ireland dealt with all of the difficult issues of sex and morality throughout this period.
