Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

The Dominican Republic's Inherent Debt Crisis

The U.S. left the Dominican Republic in 1930 and created a power vacuum that was filled by rebels. Raphael Urena took control of the constabulary, which is supposed to be a policing force but he turned it into an army. In exchange for putting urena in power Trujillo agreed to stop the military from fighting the rebels so they could take over the government. This all necessitates that the government take on more debt in order to survive. It kind of inherently cripples the economy like we leave and say by the way We're making it impossible for you guys to ever get on your own feet.
