The Massacre of Glencoe
The massacre of Glen Coe was one of the most infamous episodes in Scottish history. At least 20, maybe 25 members were killed by a branch show of clan Donald. But for over a century, the massacre of Glencoe was virtually forgotten. Why is that? Clearly it was because the codes of hospitality had been neglected. And so this horror, this mass act of murder, was exceptional. The other explanation is, of course, it was a golden gift to the Jacobites.
