The cultural background study Bible said that professional mourners would gather to help facilitate grief. They were like grief duas. Jewish traditions specified that a minimum of two mourners would have to show up for even the poorest of the dead. So I like the idea that these people who are weeping and wailing loudly are basically hired hands to weep and wail loudly.
