Hemingway's Journey Through the Darkest Places
In some ways, this story is taking the trauma of the event and thinking it through. That's one way that artists make use of these things. They think about close calls they had or places in a lot of lives where something could have gone the opposite direction and then they write about it in the opposite direction. It takes a certain amount of imagination to go to dark places in your head to do that. I do admire Hemingway for doing that. This story was based upon Hemingway's experience. Very specifically, he was on Safari and he contracted what was a meebic dysentery and had to be airlifted to Nairobi for safety. In real life
