Ali alim and his friends started boxing as a team at a jim back in east turkestan. The government began to arrest the young people because boxing or the pray go to some religious schools. Alim says he hid his boxing gloves in the floor beneath the carpet, so that they would not be found by the police. There's reports that some chinese officials even moved in to live with weager families who were dered too suspicious. As the crack worse, in alim's family agreed to let him go abroad. But he had to act quickly before the government was able to confiscate its passport.
