The Enslavement, the Servitude of the Indians
The friars were appalled at what they saw. They had come with the hope of bringing the gospel to these people, and they saw them being treated unjustly. A lot of questions regarding the enslavement, the servitude of the indians had to do with whether there was a just cause for the spanish war. The catholic church, at least since after the mediaeval period, never condoned slavery and was one of the staunch opponents of it.
