The Root Causes of the Crisis in the Sahelian Region

Many people are not aware the extent to which the Sahelian region is suffering from the atrocities of violent extremists. There have been a long period of suffering from protracted conflicts rooted in historical grievances that have been worsened by inequitable management of resources, poor governance and other factors such as the economic mismanagement and corruption. The young people in particular and women are suffering. They feel disappointed, marginalized and they feel hopeless. And so it is easier for violent extremists to convince them with small statements they can get them recruited to support the kind of atrocities that they are visiting on the population.
