The Importance of Hammurabi
If he hadn't become famous in 1902 when his steelade was found, I don't know what I would say. On the other hand, I wouldn't want him to be forgotten. His laws were copied subsequently after his reign by scribes when they were in school. And so people continued to read the laws and to study them for a long time after his reign. So they were seen as important, even though they weren't the first, even by his successors.
