The book is about this idea of diverse democracys, such as the united states. Western democratic societies are weak. Theyare brittle. They are not able to stand up to authoritarian power. But i think ucrane also shows why patriotism can be a really important element in a diverse society. Not cranes diverse by different ways from th united states,. but a sort of split society, linguistical for example. And yet, it is patriotism and love of a country that has made these millions of people go and and fight against e russian invasion.
