The Indecent Proposal
In order to keep with the 1930s template, Diana can't go back to David until he's poor again. So towards the end of the film, David crashes a benefit for a zoo and bids $1 million to support an animal he knows Diana loves, a hippo. He then has to show her that he is not the same poor guy he was before, but that he's reformed. Stanley Coval used what he called the comedies of remarriage of the 1930s to illustrate the concept of skepticism.
