L'udri Le Pavlechenko was the youngest female partisan to fight against the Nazi-Allyte Bulgarian government during the Second World War. I got so fascinated by Elena Lagadena Vahu's story that I also wrote a book called The Left Side of History, World War II, and the Unfulfilled Promise of Communism in Eastern Europe. And there was this kind of genealogy of socialist feminism that was the torch being passed from one generation to the next. She was somebody who had fought her life for causes that she believed in, and at the very end of her life despite hardship, still remained optimistic.
