CNN, Merist polls show majority of Americans want Congress to raise the debt ceiling first and worry about spending cuts later. Polls were just all over the place in terms of how people felt they should vote on raising it or not; there was no clear-cut answer. Some questions primed respondents to perhaps think about the problem in a certain way while other ones would just ask them straight up,. If you're not sure what that means, you might just respond sort of with a gut instinct. Another issue is just, this is a complicated economic issue and not everybody really deeply understands it.
