Why Would I Want to Read What Scholars Have to Say About the Scriptures?

Interpreting scripture is the responsibility of prophets and apostles. When it comes to doctrinal matters, i would always defer to those with the priestod keys. The apost are not necessarily historians or linguists, and they don't claim or pretend to be. If an apostle came to your state conference and you youd asked him what yer babylon fell and hedidn't know off the top of his head, right? That's not what he knows. Some might say, modern english translations may be too difficult to make the scriptures easy to read but mentally that process invites revelation.
