How to Exercise in a Low Oxygen Environment

Exercising in a low oxygen environment means that you're less able to replenish your energy system, which is the phospho-creating system. Part of the reason for that is that you actually need oxygen in order to replenish these energy systems. So what sort of exercise is best suited to these kind of simulated environments? Is it just sprinting on a treadmill, or can you do irregular weights workout? I've noticed that there are Pilates sessions even popping up at altitude. Yeah, essentially you can do anything in a high-poxic environment, so be that.
