The Different Types of Progestins

Some progestins are actually derivatives of testosterone. If a molecule like progestin activates the cortisol receptor, the body basically reads this as cortisol binding. This is why there's such varying degrees of noticeable side effects since there are so many progestins out there that act differently in different women. For example, one woman might get a certain form of oral contraceptive and feel depressed and anxious from it while another woman taking the same exact pill may not have those effects.
