Yannoff: There is an annual Evergreen State College tradition called the day of absence, where students of color would stay off campus to raise awareness about their contributions. In 2017, it was proposed that the tradition be inverted and white students and faculty be asked to remain away from campus. A reportedly well respected and progressive at the time, Professor Brett Weinstein, harshly criticizes this idea. Yannoff: Conservative groups are coming to the college to protest tensions exploding all around.
