The Rise of Corporate Separation
Two-thirds of companies in the S&P 500 have at least three segments with more than $500 million of revenue. The cost of capital has fundamentally changed, and that means it is no longer growth at any cost. Capital allocation decisions take on far greater significance. And lastly, as organic growth opportunities have slowed, there is increasing importance being placed by management teams and shareholders on profitability.
