The Influence of Cage on Avant-Garde Music
The composer of 4 minutes 33 is possibly the single most influential avant-garde artist of the mid 20th century. Cage was torn between three great vocations, all of which in some fashion would shape his work for decades to come. In 1933 he went door to door asking women if they would be interested in signing up to electric cars from him on modern art and music. He later talked about putting his musical limits to good use in being more inventive.
