The Persistence of Hierarchies in Society
A mediocre white man might be given the benefit of the doubt whereas a woman might be doubted if she's in tech for example. Why do these states as hierarchies persist? Well they persist for the big broad status hierarchies in society like the ones based on race and gender and class and and occupation is occupational status is a part of class. People have sort of prior assumptions that prior assumption increases the chances that you're going to come out of that interaction being encouraged to go up or down. Then what happens is that that changes life outcomes. They are more likely to gain positions of power in society and that recreates the structure that helps justify the status place.
