The Second Dimension of Conditionals
We use tenses to explain these different thought layers, right? So second dimension, if we play chess, I would beat you. That means would win the game. Would kick your ass. Now, it's not possible. It's like science fiction. It's possible, but very unlikely. The third conditional is side down. It's a parallel universe where things happen differently. There is like a sense of regret. If I had asked her to stay, she would have stayed. Or if I had studied for the test, I would have aced it. We use weird tenses in the past because it's our parallel universe.
