The chef grew up in an upper middle class family. His father sold golf clubs but he was never a golfer. He moved to Japan when he was 21 and started teaching English at the age of 19. After leaving his job, he decided not to come back to the corporat world. But then got inspired by office space from film 'igo fockit' The cook is now working on her own TV series for Channel 4 called Chef's Table.
