The Roman Witch

The Epodes are an early group of poems that have some of this spooky stuff, some more obscene stuff. So here we've got Kanidia, she is named. Her name's interesting because it's perhaps a reminder of the word canis which means dog in Latin. She's got unkempt hair. And I think right from the start we see a more Roman version of the witch here. That tends to be older, tends to be undesirable in Roman eyes.
